PhotoMicroscopy

Aug. 2007. The first five images are an update to an exhibit I call Crystal Canyons. I think of this as stereo art, resembling landscapes of canyon country in an abstract way. All these stereo photographs are made by photographing thin crystals using a standard single-axis polarized-light microscope. Typical crystal width is about 1 millimeter. Subjects are recrystallized mixtures of various suitable compounds. Various optical slicing and thickness/rotation measurement techniques were used to create 3D renderings (vertically stretched) of these spectacular objects.
