Macro Photography

This exhibit is called "Liquid Magic". Harold Edgerton developed the methodology of high-speed (short duration) flash photography, and even took a few 3D's. However, macro-stereo imaging of millisecond-lifetime subjects seems a relatively unexplored area. I used a beam-splitter based macro rig, along with a digital timer from www.bmumford.com to photograph drop dynamics. The art is in the lighting, and in the various methods of coloring droplets and orchestrating drop collisions. The fragmentation of drops hitting surfaces, and the splintering of inter-air droplet interactions, have applications in engineering and in atmospheric science. Very beautiful too, often resembling glass sculptures or exotic flowers. Added May 17: Triple towers and capillary explosions (at the bottom).
