TWO-LENS HALF-FRAME STEREO MACRO ATTACHMENT (de Wijs)

An example of a special two-lens device that is quite popular for stereo macro-photography is the deWijs macro lens.  This device is incorporated into a 35mm lens barrel that can be mounted onto standard SLRs from many different manufactureres.  Precision baffles keep the two images separate.  Various separations from 14mm (f45) to 6.5mm (f90) are available, but changing separation requires replacing the entire lens.

Since both images are recorded on a single 35mm film chip (or full frame CCD plate), a vertical format is preferred.  The individual images of the stereo pair are 18mm wide by 24mm high.  With both the left and right parts on the same frame, camera shutter synchronization is not a problem with this system.  A sketch of the light path for this device is shown below.
