An example of a special two-lens
device that is quite popular for stereo macro-photography
is the
deWijs macro
lens. This device is incorporated into a 35mm lens
barrel that can be mounted onto standard SLRs from many
different manufactureres. Precision baffles keep the two images
separate. Various separations from 14mm (f45)
to 6.5mm (f90) are available, but
changing separation requires replacing the entire lens.
Since both images are
recorded on a single 35mm film chip (or full frame CCD plate),
a vertical format is preferred. The individual images of
the stereo pair are 18mm wide by 24mm high. With both
the left and right parts on the same frame, camera shutter
synchronization is not a problem with this system. A sketch of the light path for this
